I’m sitting outside eating lunch listening to two little boys sit with their parents - doing the same - chatting about the business they are “running”.

It reminds me so much of myself as a kid.

I can’t tell you how many businesses I’ve started. From the time I was a kid into my teenage years, probably more than I can count on two hands.

At the time, I probably wouldn’t have considered most of them businesses at all. But looking back, I’ve been an entrepreneur through and through my entire life.

It’s funny how much of your adulthood aligns with your childhood, when you think about it. I was reminded of this by @alexkrahling in a recent @dreamsmarterpodcast episode.

I brought it up to my sister and had her help me recount all of the times I’d started a business. Which ultimately we laughed over. But here’s a quick list of a few:

• I’d set up a retail shop in my backyard as a kid, play shopping cart & cash register included, but real money exchange a must
• I’d also set up restaurants in the same way, forcing my family to eat dinner under my watch. Of course I was only a kid, so my “food” was nonexistent
• I took a stab at photography and sold my photos printed on items like phone cases, etc
• I started Shop Poised Avenue, a clothing store that was birthed from my fashion blog but went no where
• I run a YL biz
• I ran a nannying biz for years

...to list a few.

Truthfully, I’ve never been without money yet I’ve never worked a conventional job a day in my life. And honestly, that’s something I’m extremely proud of.

But not only was I obsessed with understanding the way business worked since I was a kid, I’ve always loved being creative. I would go to art class every weekend, work charity events painting faces and doing crafts with kids, spend high school learning photography and yearbook skills - among advanced placement art, and wanted so badly to work for my dad’s graphic design company (which I do now).

It’s funny how life predicts itself when you pay attention.

And there is truly nothing that makes me happier than running Poised Avenue Design Studio.
